pic du midi

The Pic du Midi astronomical observatory is open to the public most of the year and is a must see for anyone interested in astronomy, the observatory is accessed via cable car.

The observatory lies at an altitude of 2877m where it sits above most atmospheric pollution and clouds, the second picture on this page shows the cloud base lying around the observatory. There are indoor exhibitions and it is usually possible to buy a meal in the resturant.

Visitors are advised to dress warmly and to take sunglasses.

The high altitude means that the pic is not recommeded for very young children or pregnant women.
